Welcome to this open education resource (OER) in which we will explore Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Learning focusing on its mobile dimension through a real-life case study, DIY The Social Learning App for Kids (DIY TSLAK)
This project was created for the course ETEC 523: Mobile & Open Learning in the Master of Educational Technology (MET) program at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, by students Eduardo Rebagliati and Jennifer Petrovics.

An exploration of the concept of DIY, its characteristics and culture. More recent features that establish the category of Mobile DIY are also discussed with examples.

LEARNING CASE
An in-depth look at a mobile DIY case: DIY The Social Learning App for Kids (DIY SLAK). We'll explore its concept, features, connection to learning theories, its non-traditional approach, mobility affordances, and safety strategies. A video review of the app is also included.

A DIY learning activity for you to complete and reflect on your experience considering the information and ideas you have explored on this website. You'll be asked to share a DIY creation along with a reflection on a Padlet.
