Porfirio Vásquez (1902-1971) was an Afro-Peruvian guitarist, singer, dancer, cajoneador, and poet, also known as “The Patriarch of Black Music”.

All of Vásquez's children were involved with music, most notably Vicente Vásquez and Pepe Vásquez, who became one of the most representative figures of Afro-Peruvian music. Vásquez and his children had a group named “Porfirio Vásquez and sons” which did numerous presentations in Peru (Paredes, 2019).
